Don't Live Far, Don't Use The Car!

The government’s expectation is that young infant school children should be able to walk 800m (½ mile). Junior school children should be able to walk 1.6km (1 mile) and Secondary school children should be able to walk 3.2km (2 miles) and cycle 3 to 5 miles to school along safe routes.

Statistics show that in Bournemouth this is not happening at some schools.

If you ’Don’t live far? Don’t use the car!’ you will:

  • ease the congestion at the school gate
  • improve road safety around the school
  • contribute to a Healthy lifestyle
  • Help develop Independent travel
  • reduce pollution
